On July 17, 2024, a routine patrol in the North District led to a significant arrest. At approximately 4:30 a.m., officers spotted a man riding an e-bike in the area of Isabel/McDermot. The bike, with its unique features, matched the description of one recently reported stolen from a nearby neighbourhood.
The suspect was apprehended in the 400 block of Kennedy Street. Upon verification, the bike was confirmed as the stolen property on file.
However, the arrest took a serious turn when a search revealed a sawed-off rifle and an air pistol concealed in the suspect’s backpack.
The suspect, identified as Terrance Trevor Okemow, 44, of Winnipeg, was subsequently charged with multiple firearm-related and property offences. These include:
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Carrying Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition (two counts)
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (two counts)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
Following the charges, Okemow was detained in custody.
