Brandon Police have a 35-year-old male in custody after he allegedly fired a handgun at a vehicle after confronting an individual near Baker Bay in the community.
Officers arrived on the scene and learned that the suspect had confronted an individual with the gun but the victim was able to get in their vehicle and flee. The suspect then allegedly fired the gun at the vehicle hitting it at least once. The suspect and victim did not know each other according to investigators.
While fleeing the area the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree.
Police say the incident happened around 6:00 pm on Wednesday February 10, 2021. Witnesses told officers that the suspect had been seen running away from the area armed with a handgun.
A search of the area located the suspect within minutes. He was still in possession of a CZ-74 handgun along with additional ammunition when he was arrested. Police say no injuries were reported due to the shooting.
Police have charged the suspect for his alleged involvement with 14 weapons-related offences including:
- Use of Firearm in the Commission of an Offence
- Discharge Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life
- Assault with a Weapon
- Discharge Restricted Firearm into a Place in a Reckless Manner
- Breach of Undertaking
- three counts of Possession of Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order
- Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon
- Pointing a Firearm
The suspect was detained in custody
