Traffic stop leads to assault, weapon and theft charges

Winnipeg Police say that a 34-year-old male suspect allegedly assaulted officers after they stopped the vehicle he was in.

Just before 6:00 am on January 1, 2020, officers noticed a vehicle on Inkster Boulevard near Keewatin Street without lights or licence plates.

The vehicle came to an abrupt stop as police caught up to the vehicle near Kinver Avenue.

The driver exited the vehicle and it looked to officers that the man was going to run away when he suddenly turned towards them with a knife after they had told him to stop.

Officers fired a taser at the suspect and were able to quickly take him into custody.

Further investigation revealed that the truck had been stolen in the Heritage Park area on December 30, 2019.

Kevin Bradley Sinclair from Winnipeg is facing charges for his alleged involvement with:

  • Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)

He was held in custody.
