Suspect charged in firearms investigation

A 44-year-old Winnipeg man is facing a number of firearms-related charges after member of the Winnipeg Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit raided a home in the 100 block of Gables Court.

Police say that on February 10, 2022, officers executed a search warrant as part of an ongoing firearms investigation.

Officers located a .22 calibre rifle that had its serial number obliterated.

Joseph Willian Sys was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
  • Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition x 2
  • Outstanding Warrant (Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, Attempt to Obstruct Justice)

Sys was detained in custody.
