An 18-year-old female is facing a number of charges after she attempted to evade police while allegedly driving a stolen vehicle through a number of Winnipeg neighbourhoods.
The incident happened just before 11:00 pm on Sunday, January 30, 2022. Officers in Air1 were in the area on different matter when they spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area. A ground unit attempted to stop the vehicle but it refused to stop. Air1 followed the vehicle as it tried to evade officers and tracked the driver after the vehicle came to a stop in the 200 block of Dorothy Street. The eye in the sky watched as the suspect tried to cover herself in snow to hide. She was eventually taken into custody in the 200 block of Beacon Street.
Police say they believe the driver was impaired.
Police determined that the vehicle had been stolen the day before after the keys had been left inside while parked in the William Whyte.
Katie Marie Wilson has been charged for her alleged involvement with Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both, Fail or Refuse to Comply with Demand, Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer, Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited by Order Under Criminal Code and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000.
Wilson was detained in custody.
