Winnipeg Police have arrested Alex Arumeul Genaille for stabbing a 7-year-old Bull Mastiff in the face on August 31, 2018.
The 20-year-old male was identified through surveillance video and witness interviews.
In the video, the suspect can be seen pulling out a mask to hide his identity and a knife from a backpack. After putting on the mask he stabbed the dog. ‘Cooter’ was badly wounded in the attack. The stab wound went through his nose down to his teeth. The seven-year-old family pet underwent emergency surgery to repair the damage and is expected to recover. Owner Mark Eskow say that the surgery cost approximately $1,000.
On Tuesday police put out a photo of the suspect and a request for help in locating him.
Genaille was taken into custody on around 3:15 on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, after officers located him on the street. Genaille attempted to avoid arrest and took off on foot with police in pursuit. He was quickly arrested in the area of Boyd Avenue and Salter Street.
Genaille has been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, possession of a weapon and disguise with intent. He remains in custody.
