On the evening of July 15, 2024, Falcon Beach RCMP responded swiftly to a reported break-in at a private property in Hadashville. The suspect, a male individual, was caught on video surveillance entering the property around 9:30 pm.
The RCMP officers, along with Police Dog Services (PDS) and a drone, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered an abandoned vehicle without licence plates parked just outside the property. A closer inspection revealed a licence plate inside the vehicle, which was later confirmed to be stolen from Abbotsford, B.C.
With the area secured, the drone was deployed, leading to the discovery of the male suspect attempting to evade capture by running through a neighbouring property and taking refuge in an abandoned building. As the police officers closed in, the suspect surrendered and was arrested without any further incident.
The suspect, a 38-year-old male from Newfoundland, had sustained minor injuries unrelated to the break-in and was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment. He is now facing charges of Flight from Peace Officer, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and Trespass at Night.
The RCMP continues to investigate this incident.
