On October 30, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a male armed with a knife in the area of James Avenue and Main Street. Central District General Patrol officers quickly arrived and arrested the suspect without incident, seizing a knife believed to have been used in the assault. The victim, a 23-year-old male, was unharmed.
The investigation revealed that the victim was driving eastbound on James Avenue towards Main Street when the suspect, riding a bicycle, took exception to sharing the roadway. The suspect dismounted his bicycle and threw it at the victim’s vehicle, lodging it beneath. When the victim exited his vehicle to remove the bicycle, the suspect yelled obscenities, approached him, and threatened him with a knife. The victim left the area and called the police.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect misidentified himself but was positively identified by the Identification Section.
Chance Sean Kennedy, 45, of Winnipeg, is charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Identity Fraud – Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
Kennedy was detained in custody.
