Winnipeg police have arrested a 31-year-old male in connection to a serious assault in the 600 block of Main Street that happened around 5:30 pm on November 23, 2021.
Police located an adult male in his 50s who was unconscious and bleeding after receiving a report of an assault. The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable.
The accused allegedly stole the victim’s cane then used it to assault the victim before fleeing on foot. While officers were investigating the incident the accused returned to the area and was pointed out by people who had witnessed the assault.
John Peter Harper was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement with Robbery and Assault with a Weapon.
Police say that prior to the assault the victim and the accused were not known to each other.
Harper was detained in custody.
