Suspect Arrested After Elgin Avenue Stabbing

A 28-year-old man from Little Saskatchewan First Nation is facing multiple assault charges following a stabbing incident on Elgin Avenue late Friday night.

The Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a stabbing in the 500 block of Elgin Avenue at approximately 9:00 p.m. on March 28, 2025. Upon arrival, Central District General Patrol officers discovered that a dispute had escalated into violence, resulting in injuries to three individuals.

According to police reports, the suspect, identified as Nathan Sumner, was involved in an argument with several people. The altercation turned physical, and Sumner allegedly assaulted a 53-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man in their upper bodies. He then reportedly assaulted a 33-year-old man in the upper body with a weapon.

While the female and 60-year-old male victims did not require medical attention, the 33-year-old male victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Officers located and apprehended Sumner without incident in the 600 block of Balmoral Street at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Sumner has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Assault and one count of Assault with a Weapon. He has been detained in custody.
