When crews arrived they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. A defensive attack was initially launched but was soon able to transition to an offensive attack. The fire was knocked down by 3:00 am and declared under control at 3:48 am.

At one point an aerial ladder was set up and crews were in place above the building but lightning forced them to abandon its use out of safety concerns.

Residents in the building were able to get out before firefighters arrived. One resident told News 4 that just prior to the fire a loud bang was heard near an electrical conduit at the rear of the property.

One person was assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
