Students find body during community cleanup

Grade seven and eight students from Ècole South Pointe School discovered a body while participating in a community cleanup project on Friday, May 27, 2022.

The body was found in a fenced-in area south of Waverley Street and east of Kenaston Boulevard. Pembina Trails School Division said in a letter to parents the students returned to the school after the discovery and police were called. The division says that a social worker and school psychologist were at the school to talk to the students about what they saw and what they were feeling.

Police were on the scene until early in the evening as members of the Forensics Unit gathered evidence.

A black van arrived just before 6:00 pm and the remains were placed in a body bag and transported from the scene.

Police have yet to release any information about the incident.
