Students and faculty are heading back to classes this morning after members of the University of Manitoba Faculty Association (UMFA) ratified their collective agreement.
After 21 days on the picket line UMFA was able to get a one year retroactive deal that addressed the three key issues they had said they were striking for. According to UMFA workload projections, enhancements to governance and fair assessment practices have been agreed to. The faculty didn’t see a pay increase though but they did agree to a clause that would restrict layoffs until at least 2019.
The new collective agreement is set to expire at the end of March 2017.
