On Wednesday, January 24, 2018, RCMP in Stonewall got a tip that a male was going to attempt to smuggle drugs into Stony Mountain Institution north of Winnipeg.
Based on the tip police stopped a vehicle in Stonewall and found 26 grams of shatter (marihuana product), 42 grams of cocaine and a gram of meth. Investigators believe that the drugs were going to be given to an inmate who was being treated at a local hospital. The inmate would then smuggle the drugs inside the walls of the prison.

46-year-old Gabriel Bruce from Winnipeg was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement in the caper with two counts of Trafficking a Controlled Substance, two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Fail to Comply with a Recognizance as well as several Highway Traffic Act offences.
RCMP and member from Correctional Services Canada continue to investigate.
