23-year-old David Dempsey-Daley is facing a number of charges after he allegedly stole a vehicle then wreak havoc as he tried to flee police.
It happened Monday morning, October 22, 2018. Police say that after officers located the stolen vehicle on Ellice Avenue and made a traffic stop Dempsey-Daley put the car 2014 Honda Civic into drive and slammed it into the front of a second police cruiser. He then sped away from the scene reaching speeds above 100 kph. At one point the suspect drove into oncoming traffic on Century Street.
Still driving erratically the suspect then crashed into a taxi in the intersection of Ellice Avenue and Berry Street causing extensive damage to the vehicles. The driver and passenger in the taxi were taken to hospital in stable condition. The suspect took off on foot but was tracked down and arrested a short distance away.
For his alleged involvement Dempsey-Daley is facing the following charges:
- Flight While Pursued by Police Officer
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Drive While Disqualified
- Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle x 2
- Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident
He was detained in custody.
