Property, weapons and highway Traffic offences have landed a 25-year-old Winnipeg man in custody.
Early Thursday morning, October 18, 2018 police noticed a stolen vehicle driving near Burrows Avenue and McGregor Street. Backup was called in and the stolen vehicle was contained on the Arlington Street bridge. The driver tried to get away and rammed the stolen vehicle into a police unit but officers were able to take him into custody.
Police say that two officers sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Officers searched the stolen vehicle and found a sawed-off shotgun and 18 shotgun shells.
The vehicle had been reported stolen on October 12, 2018.
Skylar Andrew McPherson, from Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x3)
- Drive without a licence or with an invalid licence (Highway Traffic Act)
McPherson was also wanted on three outstanding warrants for Robbery, Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x2) and Fail to Comply with Probation (x2).
He was detained in custody.
