Stolen truck recovered, suspect arrested after police pursuit

Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) recovered a stolen vehicle from Winnipeg and arrested a 27-year-old suspect after he tried to run from police.

On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, MFNPS officers on patrol noticed a half-ton pickup truck leaving a home on Long Plain First Nation. The vehicle matched the description of a stolen truck from Winnipeg.

Officers ran the plates and confirmed the vehicle had been stolen.

As police attempted to pull the vehicle over the suspect took off at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the vehicle until the driver tried to lose the police cruiser by driving into a field just off Highway 305.

The pickup got stuck in deep snow ending the pursuit. As the officers approach the truck the driver got out and surrendered to them.

The male suspect has been charged for his alleged involvement with Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 and Failure to Comply with a Release Order.

Police have not released the name of the accused but say he has been remanded into custody.
