Stolen vehicle pursuit leads to impaired, firearm and property charges

A 41-year-old Fairford, Manitoba man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly led police on a pursuit while driving a stolen pickup truck.

According to police, officers spotted the stolen Ford F150 truck near Selkirk Avenue and McPhillips Street around 12:30 am on January 23, 2024. Once the driver noticed police he fled but officers were able to deploy a stop stick and partially disable the vehicle.

Air-1 followed the vehicle and watched as an adult male and an adult female fled the vehicle on foot near Clifton Street and Ellice Avenue. Aerial officers also noticed a long item being discarded as the pair fled. The item turned out to be a .22 calibre rifle.

Officers found the pair hiding in separate yards in the 700 block of Clifton Street. both were taken into custody.

Police learned that the vehicle had been stolen on November 28, 2023, from the Steinbach area.

The suspect was charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both
  • Fail or Refuse to Comply with Demand
  • Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited by Order Under Criminal Code
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x 3

The man was detained in custody.
