In the early hours of Wednesday, July 31, 2024, a stolen white Ford 350 was spotted by members of the West District Community Support Unit (CSU) in the Varsity View neighbourhood. The vehicle, a 2006 Ford 350 Lariat, had been reported stolen from Portage la Prairie.
With the assistance of the Tactical Support Team (TST) and West District General Patrol officers, a pursuit was initiated to bring the vehicle to a stop. The Flight Operations Unit (Air 1) was called in and quickly located the stolen vehicle, providing crucial visual containment information to ground units.
The pursuit lasted approximately forty minutes, extending to the West Perimeter and the municipality of Headingley. Several successful stop sticks were deployed, ultimately bringing the vehicle to a halt at Charleswood Road and Roblin Boulevard. Fortunately, no collisions or injuries were reported during the incident.
Upon stopping the vehicle, officers took two occupants into custody and seized a small quantity of cocaine and methamphetamine.
A 34-year-old male from Winnipeg faces multiple charges, including:
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
- Possession of an Identity Document
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x6)
He has been detained in custody.
A 46-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing charges of:
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
He was released on an Appearance Notice and Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
