On December 12, 2024, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers were on patrol near Sargent Avenue and Simcoe Street when they spotted a white 2023 Nissan Qashqai. The vehicle had been reported stolen from the 100 block of Gerard Street on December 8, 2024.
The officers followed the vehicle through central downtown and attempted to contain it in a back lane between Home Street and Arlington Street. In an effort to escape, the suspect vehicle rammed one of the police cruisers. However, the vehicle became stuck on a snowbank at the corner of Home Street and Ellice Avenue.
Two occupants were taken into custody without incident. Thankfully, the officers involved were not injured.
Darcy Jace Seymour, 24, of Winnipeg, has been charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He remains in custody. A 23-year-old female passenger was released without charges.
