Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Arrest at Winnipeg Casino Parkade

A pursuit through Winnipeg’s streets led to the arrest of two individuals late Saturday night after a stolen vehicle was intercepted by police with the aid of Air1.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., General Patrol officers from the North District spotted a vehicle driving erratically and at high speeds near King and Flora Streets, disobeying multiple traffic lights and violating the Highway Traffic Act. The pursuit quickly escalated as the vehicle was observed heading westbound on Logan Avenue.

With the help of Air1, the vehicle was tracked to a parkade at the McPhillips Street casino. Following a brief foot chase, officers apprehended the vehicle’s occupants. The vehicle was confirmed stolen.

The driver, identified as 30-year-old Jonas Donat Sabiston of Winnipeg, faces several serious charges, including:

  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
  • Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited by Order Under Criminal Code
  • Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited Pursuant to Federal or Provincial Act
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

Sabiston remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.

A 24-year-old female from Winnipeg, who was also apprehended, is being held on a curfew breach related to a previous condition. She remains in custody as the investigation continues.
