Stolen Vehicle Crash Leads to Multiple Charges, Officer Injured

A police chase and head-on collision on the Tupper Street Bridge resulted in multiple serious charges against two Winnipeg men and minor injuries to a police officer, according to the Portage la Prairie RCMP.

The incident unfolded on February 22, 2025, at approximately 7:40 p.m., when an RCMP officer patrolling the area spotted a vehicle reported stolen from Winnipeg. The vehicle, occupied by three males, was located on the Tupper Street Bridge.

The officer activated emergency equipment in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop. However, the situation quickly escalated. Two additional police cruisers had positioned themselves on the south side of the bridge to assist. Upon seeing the cruisers, the suspect vehicle reportedly accelerated, narrowly missing one police vehicle before crashing head-on into the second.

Following the collision, two of the three occupants were arrested and are now facing a slew of charges for their alleged involvement.

Dana Popko, 36, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.00
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Assault Police Officer
  • Assault Police Officer with a Weapon
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine

Neepin Moose, 30, also of Winnipeg, faces charges of:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.00
  • Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Weapon
  • Possession of Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possess Firearm While Prohibited, Carry Concealed Weapon
  • Obstruct Police Officer
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine

Additionally, Moose was found to have an outstanding Warrant of Arrest from Winnipeg for Being Unlawfully at Large, as well as an Apprehension Warrant from the Parole Board.

The third male suspect was released without charges at this time.

One police officer and two of the suspects sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.

Popko and Moose have been remanded into custody and appeared in court this week.
