Police involved in pursuit of stolen truck twice only hours apart

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 26-year-old man after he allegedly stole a truck, filled it with gas without paying and led police on a couple of pursuits as he tried to get away.

It all started around 5:30 am on Friday, October 6, 2017, when an F-150 was stolen from a parking lot near Grassie Boulevard and Lagimodiere Boulevard.

Early afternoon on Sunday, October 8, 2017, the driver of the stolen pickup fueled up the F-150 at a station at Gateway Road and McLeod Avenue. He took off without paying.

On Monday, October 9, 2017, officers on patrol spotted the vehicle in Transcona. According to them, the driver was operating the vehicle dangerously. As police tried to stop the pickup the suspect took off. Police pursued but called it off because of the way the pickup was being driven.

Four hours later, just after 3:00 pm police again found the stolen truck, this time near Plessis Road and Regent Avenue. As police once again tried to stop the vehicle the driver sped off with police in pursuit. As the vehicles travelled through a residential area, officers called off the chase out of concern for public safety.

A few minutes later the truck slammed into two vehicles at Plessis and Pandora. The driver took off on foot.

Winnipeg Police brought in the K-9 unit and the dog was able to track the suspect.

Wayne Daniel Rennie from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer X2
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle X2
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Driving While Disqualified
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order X4
  • Theft Under
  • Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident X2
