A stolen SUV slammed into a commercial building early Saturday morning after a police chase, resulting in the arrest of an 18-year-old Winnipeg man.
Around 1:50 a.m. on February 8, 2025, a Canine Unit on patrol spotted a 2010 Acura MDX speeding eastbound on McDermot Avenue near Arlington Street. The vehicle matched the description of an SUV reported stolen from a parking lot in the 900 block of Notre Dame Avenue two days prior, on February 6.
Officers from Central General Patrol joined the Canine Unit, and a pursuit began. The driver of the stolen Acura, the sole occupant of the vehicle, attempted to evade police, driving southbound on Arlington Street. During the chase, the SUV hit a light standard. As police approached, the suspect rammed the police vehicle and continued to flee at a high speed.
The chase ended shortly after when the driver lost control and crashed the stolen vehicle into a commercial building in the 900 block of Notre Dame Avenue. The impact caused an estimated $30,000 in damage to the building.
The driver then fled the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended by officers after a brief chase. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The 18-year-old Winnipeg man is now facing charges for his alleged involvement of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000. He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for Fail to Comply with Sentence x 4. He remains in custody.
