Stolen Semi stopped at Selkirk and Salter

Winnipeg Police are investigating after a suspect stole a semi truck and took it on a joyride in and out of the city before crashing into a fence at Selkirk Avenue and Salter Street.

The truck was first reported stolen near Inkster Boulevard and King Edward Street around 10:30 am on Friday, January 18, 2019.

A number of vehicles were hit as the suspects drove north out of the city then came back into Winnipeg travelling south on Main Street hitting more vehicles including a Duffy’s taxi.

Police say that two people are in custody and the area around Selkirk Avenue and Salter Street is completely closed as well as southbound curb lane of Main Street at Selkirk Avenue. The middle and median lanes of Main are reopened to traffic but drivers are asked to slow down in that area.

It is expected police will be on scene and traffic will be disrupted during the drive home Friday.
