Stolen Pickup Slams into Police Cruiser, Two Officers Seriously Injured

Manitoba’s police watchdog agency, The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU), is investigating a collision between a stolen pickup truck and a Winnipeg Police Service Patrol vehicle on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Investigators say that police first noticed the stolen pickup truck near Inkster Boulevard and St. Cross Street around 4:00 am. Shortly afterwards the truck crashed into a patrol unit that was in the area of Main Street and Belmont Avenue. The impact resulted in serious damage to both vehicles. The two officers inside the cruiser at the time of the collision suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. The suspect driving the stolen pickup truck was also injured in the collision. All three were transported to hospital.

The IIU is investigating the collision since there are serious injuries in an incident involving the police. Under legislation the IIU is mandated to investigate this kind of incident.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have video footage is asked to contact the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
