A stolen vehicle was found heavily damaged after a wild ride through a Kimberley Avenue parking lot on Monday evening, leading to the arrest of four youths.
Winnipeg Police Service officers responded to reports of an erratic driver in the 900 block of Kimberley Avenue at approximately 6:45 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered an abandoned 2021 Kia Forte, with significant damage. Investigations later confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Whitley Drive on March 18th.
Witnesses reported that the stolen vehicle had been driven erratically in the parking lot, with the driver screeching tires and performing “donuts” around light poles. The chaotic driving ended when the Forte lost control and collided with a pole, sustaining extensive damage.
All four occupants of the vehicle fled the scene on foot.
Officers, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit (TST) and the Canine Unit (K9), initiated a search of the surrounding area. They successfully located three suspects hiding in the rear of a residence in the sub 100 block of Green Valley Bay, arresting them without incident. A fourth suspect was apprehended a short time later near the intersection of Louelda Street and Green Valley Bay.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
A 15-year-old male from Winnipeg has been charged with Mischief Over $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000. He was released on an Undertaking.
A 14-year-old male and two 15-year-old males, all from Winnipeg, were released without charges.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
