Stolen ambulance crashed into tree

RCMP has arrested a 20-year-old man after he stole an ambulance and crashed it into a tree on Saturday night, July 8, 2023.

Police say that prior to the theft the accused was seen jumping into traffic and punching vehicles on Princeton Drive in Thompson. When paramedics responded to a call related to the punching of vehicles the suspect jumped behind the wheel after the EMS crew had exited the ambulance. As the suspect tried to flee he crashed into a minivan and then continued on to crash into a tree moment later.

The suspect and five people in the minivan were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Once in hospital the accused threatened medical staff while being treated. He was released into police custody.

Draven Beardy has been charged for his alleged involvement with five counts of Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm, Utter Threats, Theft of Vehicle, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

RCMP say that additional charges may be pending. Beardy was detained in custody.
