RCMP have charged a 27-year-old Steinbach man with a number of assault charges after they were called to a home on McKenzie Avenue in Steinbach early in the morning of January 1, 2019. Steinbach is about 63 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.
Police say that as they approach the residence they noticed the suspect trying to break into a nearby vehicle. Police placed the suspect in custody but not before he tried to avoid arrest by fighting with officers.
Once the officers were able to get inside the residence they found a 28-year-old female suffering from serious injuries. She was taken to hospital in Steinbach but was moved to a Winnipeg hospital due to her injuries. She is currently in stable condition.
Investigators say that the victim and the suspect knew each other.
A 35-year-old male was also injured when he tried to help the female victim. His injuries are considered non-life threatening say police.
Harley Delorme has been charged for his alleged involvement with Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Aggravated Assault, Assault on Police Officer, Resist Arrest and Mischief Under $5000.
Delorme was detained in custody.
RCMP continue to investigate.
