On August 2, 2024, at approximately 10:15 a.m., a 50-year-old man was walking in the 400 block of King Street when he was approached by a male suspect who, without provocation, stabbed him in the upper body. The suspect then fled the area. Emergency personnel transported the victim to the hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
Shortly after, at around 10:20 a.m., a 27-year-old woman was in the rear of the 700 block of Main Street when she encountered the same suspect. Without provocation, the suspect began stabbing her repeatedly in the upper and lower body before fleeing the scene. She was transported to the hospital in unstable condition but was later upgraded to stable condition.
The Winnipeg Police Service K-9 Unit, with the assistance of North District General Patrol officers, conducted a track in the 100 block of Lusted Avenue, where they located and arrested a male suspect.
The suspect, a 15-year-old male youth, and both victims are unknown to each other. The Major Crimes Unit has charged the suspect with two counts of Assault with a Weapon. He has been detained in custody.
