Just after 7:30 pm on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, a female shopping at St. Vital Centre was attacked by a 30-year-old woman who stabbed her with a syringe.
Police say that the attack was unprovoked and that the suspect and the victim were in the same store when suddenly the suspect stabbed the victim in the arm with a hypodermic needle. It is believed that the fluid in the needle was “destructive or noxious” according to investigators.
The victim was taken to hospital and treated.
The suspect had taken off before police arrived but she was located in another part of the mall and arrested. A search found methamphetamine, a number of syringes, stolen items and identification from another woman.
Investigators say that the victim and suspect did not know each other.
30-year-old Jessie Kayla Genaille from Winnipeg has been charged for her alleged involvement with Aggravated Assault, Administer Noxious Thing with Intent Endanger Life or Cause Bodily Harm, Possession of Scheduled Substance-Methamphetamine, Possession of an Identity Document, Theft under $5,000, Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
She was detained in custody.
