Education and Training Minister Kelvin Goertzen announced a major renovation and addition to École Noël Ritchot in St. Norbert.
30,000 square feet will be added to the kindergarten to grade eight school as well as renovations to nearly 6,000 square feet of the existing building.
According to the minister eight new classrooms, a new gym and a new child-care centre will be added.
“This expansion and renovation will provide French-speaking students in St. Norbert with a refreshed learning space that will support engagement and achievement,” said Goertzen. “We look forward to working with La Division scolaire franco-manitobaine on this project, which will enhance the futures of the next generation of Franco-Manitobans.”
The existing gym will be converted to a multi-purpose room and a music room and other existing space will be renovated to become a grooming room and resource teaching area. Outside a new bus loop and parking lot will be added.
Currently, there are 250 students who attend the school. The renovation and addition will add capacity for 200 more students.
The cost of the project is expected to be in excess of $16 million with almost $ 2 million of that being covered by Heritage Canada toward the new child-care centre, early childhood and family centre and ancillary spaces.
The province expects to tender the project early in 2019.
