Spotting stolen vehicle leads to arrests for weapons and drugs

Around 9:30pm on Friday, July 22, 2022, officers with the Winnipeg Police Service spotted a stolen vehicle near Talbot Avenue and Watt Street.

When officers approached the vehicle at Talbot Avenue and Levis Street a short time later the male driver had fled but two adult females were still in the vehicle. Both females were arrested without incident.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun, four 12-gauge ammunition, a canister of bear spray repellent, and multiple individually wrapped pieces of crack cocaine. Officers also seized $443 from the suspects.

42-year-old Jada Renschler and 44-year-old Deanna Renschler have been charged for their alleged involvement with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized, two counts of Possession of a Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, two counts of Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order and Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine.

Deanna was also charged with Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.

Both of the accused were detained in custody.

The investigation is continuing and police are still looking for the male suspect.
