Speeding vehicle crashes into building, flips and lands on its roof

Winnipeg Police are investigating a single vehicle collision that happened on Portage Avenue late Friday night, October 21, 2022.

Just after 11:00 pm two vehicles were seen speeding westbound when one of the vehicles jumped the curb near Belvidere Street, side swiped a building, flipped onto its roof and landed in an empty field.

Witnesses said that the driver and passenger crawled out of the vehicle and then fled the scene on foot as emergency crews arrived.

The vehicle had not been stolen according to police and the 24-year-old male driver was found at his residence. He was issued a Provincial Offence Notice under the Highway Traffic Act section 155(2)(c):

“As the driver of a vehicle in an accident fail to give required information to a person whose property is damaged as a result of an accident.”
