News 4 is reminding our viewers that effective September 1st until the end of June reduced speeds are in effect in certain school zones across the province.
The speed in reduced school zones in Winnipeg is 30 kph between 7:00 am and 5:30 pm Monday to Friday. The rest of the time the speed is 50 kph.
Under provincial legislation, each municipality has the right to determine when reduced school zones are in effect. They also have the right to determine the speed reduction. If you are travelling outside Winnipeg be aware and watch for signs.

In Winnipeg, school zones are one of the areas that mobile photo enforcement likes to set up and it is expected that they will be out in force in time for both rush hours.

Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler sent out a reminder asking drivers to take extra care in school zones as students prepare to return to the classroom.
“With school-zone restrictions in Manitoba taking effect tomorrow, we ask that all drivers take extra precaution by reducing their speed and remaining alert when approaching school zones,” said Schuler.
