South Winnipeg Recreation Campus Receives $17-Million Boost for New Vocational Wing

The South Winnipeg Recreation Campus project has taken a significant step forward with a $17-million investment for the opening of a new vocational wing at Pembina Trails Collegiate. The announcement was made today by Consumer Protection and Government Services Minister Lisa Naylor.

“South Winnipeg is one of the fastest-growing communities in Manitoba and our government is building the infrastructure families need,” said Naylor. “We committed to a new recreation campus in south Winnipeg during the campaign and we are delivering. Today, we are moving ahead with the first phase, with a state-of-the-art vocational training wing for students that will form part of the campus.”

The new 19,000-square-foot wing is part of the Manitoba government’s investment in the City of Winnipeg’s South Winnipeg Recreation Campus project. It will provide students in south Winnipeg with the opportunity to learn skills in culinary arts, machining, welding, woodworking technology, and more.

“This investment by the Manitoba government in the vocational wing as part of the South Winnipeg Recreation Campus is a testament to our shared commitment to providing a new regional multi-use, multi-generational campus to meet the community’s needs,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “I look forward to further collaboration with the Manitoba government in making this project a reality for the residents of south Winnipeg.”

The City of Winnipeg led the procurement for the new wing, with construction expected to begin at the end of summer 2024 and completion slated for September 2026.
