Some surgeries postponed due to the outbreak at St. Boniface Hospital

St. Boniface Hospital has had to postpone general and cardiac surgeries due to potential COVID-19 exposure to their operating room and critical care teams.

Non-urgent or elective surgery that requires patients to be admitted as an inpatient is being postponed. Patients will be contacted if their surgery is affected.

Surgeries are being prioritized for urgent or emergent cases inpatients waiting in hospital, cardiac and cancer patients, and previously cancelled patients.

There are currently three units within St. Boniface Hospital that have declared outbreaks. 23 patients and 10 staff have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Tuesday.

Four deaths have been linked to the outbreaks within Winnipeg hospitals, three at St. Boniface and one transferred to St. Boniface from Victoria hospital.
