Snowfall warning issued for Winnipeg and most of southern Manitoba

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a snowfall warning for most of Southern Manitoba including the City of Winnipeg.

The national forecaster says that accumulations of 10 to 15 cm are expected. A low pressure system will move into the area on Wednesday afternoon, March 6, 2024 bringing a wide swath of snow. Heavy snow at times will cause visibility to drop suddenly to near zero.

The system is expected to be moving quickly and will move out of the region on Thursday.

The City of Winnipeg issued a media release stating they are prepared to respond to the forecasted snowfall. “We are monitoring road conditions and will apply sand and/or salt to improve roadway traction as required,” the city noted. “We will make further snow clearing decisions based on how much snow falls in the coming hours.”

ECCC says that rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some areas including during rush hour in Winnipeg and other urban areas.
