Snow and freezing rain set to hit southern Manitoba Wednesday

Enjoy the unseasonably warm weather on Wednesday because it’s about to change says Environment Canada.

A fast moving low pressure system will be moving into southern Manitoba from the United States beginning this evening.

According to the national weather forecaster the system will bring with it a mix of rain, snow and freezing rain beginning in the western part of the province and moving eastward overnight.

Temperatures are also expected to drop overnight to around minus 2 but with the wind chill it will feel more like minus 7.

“A narrow band of 5 to 10 cm of snowfall accumulation will stretch from roughly Brandon to Winnipeg to the Ontario border,” Environment Canada said in a special weather statement issued Wednesday morning.

Forecasters say it is too early to tell the exact path of the narrow band of precipitation. They do say that there is also a significant risk for freezing rain over western Manitoba and especially over the Red River Valley and points eastwards during the late evening and overnight hours.

It is expected that freezing rain warnings will be issued as the storm tracks across southern Manitoba.
