Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in a Fort Garry industrial building on Manahan Avenue around 4:38 pm on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
When firefighters arrived on the scene thick black smoke was billowing from the structure. Residents could see the smoke from several kilometres away as it rose hundreds of feet into the air.
Crews launched a defensive attack on the structure using two aerial ladders and hand lines and were still battling the blaze several hours after it began. Firefighters are expected to be on the scene well into the evening.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
