Skateboard used as a weapon in riverside attack

An adult male suffered upper-body injuries after an unprovoked random attack on June 29, 2023.

Police say that the victim and his family were on the dock along the Red River near Tache Avenue when a group approached them. The group began berating the victim and his family. The suspect then used his skateboard and assaulted the victim in the upper-body with it.

The suspects fled before police arrived on the scene after being called by the victim’s family. The victim took himself to St. Boniface Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

On June 30, foot patrol officers working in the downtown area located the suspect in the 200 block of Garry Street and placed the suspect into custody without incident.

The 27-year-old male suspect was charged for his alleged involvement with Assault with a Weapon. He was released on an undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada.
