Six suspicious fires within blocks of each other under investigation

An investigation is underway after firefighters responded to multiple fires in the span of just over an hour on Monday night, February 25, 2020.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to the first fire around 8:50 pm in the 400 block of Mountain Avenue. When they arrived they found a detached garage on fire which they quickly put out.

Twenty minutes later at approximately 9:10 pm a second garage fire was reported just over two blocks away on College Avenue. Crews once again put out the fire quickly.

An attached garage on Redwood Avenue was the next to go up in flames. This fire in the 700 block was only four blocks from the previous fire. Firefighters had control of the blaze in under 15 minutes.

Just as crews got the fire under control on redwood another garage fire was reported less than a block away on Aberdeen Avenue. Once again crews were able to knock down the fire within 15 minutes.

That wasn’t the end to the fires in the area. Firefighters also responded to two garbage fires after the initial four garage fires. One of those was in the back lane on Magnus the other on Manitoba Avenue.

A WFPS fire investigator was on-scene to determine the cause of the fires. Initial indications are that all of the fires were deliberately set.

Anyone with information that can help investigators is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service.
