Winnipeg Police released preliminary information about the Simcoe Street fire on Thursday, January 27, 2022.
Nine people were taken to hospital including four adults in unstable condition, four children in stable conditioning one child in critical condition.
Police report that the five-year-old child in critical condition did not survive their injuries. The four adults are now in stable condition.
Police say that at this stage in the investigation the fire does not appear suspicious in nature.
Police and fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
