RCMP from Selkirk were investigating a 911 hangup call from a rural home in the RM of St. Andrews just before 10:00 pm on June 30, 2018, when a male came outside, ordered officers off his property. The man then went back inside picked up a firearm and once again went outside and fired one shot.
Police retreated to a safe distance and called in the Emergency Response Team and the Containment Team. Overnight into the early morning hours of July 1, 2018, the suspect fired several more shots.
No one was injured in the shootings and police were able to take the man into custody. An adult female was also in the house during the standoff.
Sven Barca, 56 has been charged for his alleged involvement with Assault, Discharge a Firearm While Being Reckless, Point Firearm x 3, Careless Use of a Firearm, and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm.
He was detained in custody.
Police say that several firearms were seized from within the home.
