Late Sunday night, December 29, 2019, Winnipeg Police Guns and Gangs Unit members stopped a male after watching him ride his bicycle on the sidewalk near Ellice Avenue and Sherbrook Street.
Police say that during the stop the officers noticed a pump-action shotgun in the man’s bag.
Both the shotgun and the bike the man was riding were determined to have been stolen.
James Thomas Wiebe, 28 from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Possession of a Weapon
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Operate a bicycle on a sidewalk with a rear-wheel diameter larger than 410 mm (Highway Traffic Act)
Weibe was detained in custody.
