Shooting investigation leads to multiple arrests

Winnipeg Police Service have arrested and charged two adults and two minors in connection to a shooting incident on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

Police say that around 10:30 pm officers responded to reports of gunshot sounds in the 100 block of Kate Street.

When police arrived on the scene they found evidence of property damage, including evidence that a firearm had been discharged. No injuries were reported and the suspects were no longer in the area.

As the investigation continues police identified four male suspects in a nearby suite. All four were taken into custody. Police applied for a search warrant at a suite in the same area and upon execution discovered:

  • 100 grams of Crack Cocaine
  • Over $1000 in Canadian currency
  • A modified semi-automatic rifle
  • A loaded .22 calibre rifle
  • Various ammunition

49-year-old Ross Stephen Thompson and 45-year-old Matthew Harold Meredith have been charged for their alleged involvement with drug, firearme and property related offences.

A 14-year-old male and a 16-year-old male have also been charged for their alleged involvement with several weapon and drug-related offence. The teens were released.

Thompson and Meredith were detained in custody
