Sexual assault in Melita under investigation

RCMP in Melita are investigating a sexual assault that happened around 12:40 am on Sunday, July 18, 2021.

Police say an adult female was walking near Main Street in the community when an unknown male approached and grabbed her. He threw her to the ground and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim fought the attacker and when nearby residents heard her screams and came to help the attacker fled on foot.

Officers with the help of a K-9 unit searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

The female victim suffered minor injuries in the attack but did not require medical attention.

Police say the suspect is described as Caucasian, approximately 25 to 30-years-old, dirty blond hair that was cut short, a slim to medium build, and 5’10 to 6’ tall. He was wearing glasses, baseball cap, a white shirt and cargo shorts. He was also carrying a case of beer just prior to the attack.
