An 18-year-old male is facing sexual assault charges after an incident in Charleswood.

Police say that around 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, between Harstone Road and Buckingham Road a woman in her 40s was walking along Harte Trail when she passed a male walking in the opposite direction.

Soon after the woman heard the sound of someone running up behind her and turned to see the accused trying to open his pants as he quickly came towards her. The victim knocked the suspect to the ground and began struggling with him. As the victim fought back she yelled for help and as a bystander came into the area the suspect took off.

Members of the Sex Crimes unit were able to identify the suspect and found him in a home on Harstone Road a few hours later placing him under arrest.

The suspect remains in custody.
