Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Winnipeg and most of southern Manitoba

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch on Saturday, May 23, 2020, for most of southern Manitoba including the City of Winnipeg.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” says the statement issued at 3:30 pm.

Thunderstorms have developed this afternoon along a cold front stalled over southern Manitoba. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe late this afternoon or this evening.

Environment Canada said that the Carmen, Portage la Praire and Headingley areas are under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.
