Several people shot with a paintball gun on Steinbach’s Main Street

RCMP have arrested and charged a 25-year-old male in connection to an assault on Main Street in Steinbach late Sunday night. July 12, 2020.

Police say that agroup of people were attacked around 11:00 pm when a vehicle pulled up to them and opened fire with a paintball gun. Several people, vehicles and a building were hit by the projectiles before the suspect left the area.

As officers located the suspect vehicle the driver tried to flee but was unsuccessful and was taken into custody.

The suspect was searched and police found him in possession of cocaine. The man was then subjected to an approved roadside drug test and it was determined he was impaired.

Inside the man’s vehicle officers found several weapons including paintball guns, knives and a pellet gun.

Ruben Sweet from the RM of Hanover was charged for his alleged involvement with wo counts of Assault with a Weapon, two counts of Mischief, three counts of Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Possession of Cocaine.

He was also issued a 15 day driving suspension for the positive roadside drug test.

The investigation continues.
